Wicked Costumes – About them and Where to Get them!

The costume work that went into Wicked is amazing. There are around 263 Wicked costumes that have been created and constructed for each new production of Wicked that takes place. Of there are 180 unique costumes that are made, as well as exact duplicated of costumes for understudies and other replacement cast too. Part of the costumes are the shoes that the actors need too. These are hand made shoes to go with every costume in the musical. There are 240 pairs of shoes made approximately for every new production of Wicked as well.

To have all these costumes hand made and created for the productions of Wicked, there are also 250 craft people, artisans and others that are located all over the United States as well as over seas too. When all these people make the costumes, they need 40 yards of material and fabric to create all the ruffles in Elphaba's witch dress. Not to mention too that the Shiz uniforms that are created were designed by Susan Hilferty exclusively for Wicked. The fabric that is used was designed and created by here and it is custom printed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Look closely at the Shiz uniforms and you will notice that there are no two uniforms that are the same. Each is completely different and unique for the character. With so many costumes in the productions of Wicked, it takes 424 hours a week to have people maintain the costumes to be ready for each performance, as well as there are at least 6 loads of laundry done after every performance that happens.

Along with all the costume work, the makeup alone for Elphaba takes a half hour to apply to her every night of the performance. There are also 20 different shades of green that are used on her, though only a few are used regularly, but other are available when necessary.

On TicketsWicked.org you will get up to date information about the fixed locations Wicked is plaid at. We will also be posting information about all the touring locations the travelling Wicked crew will visit. If you are not familiar with these places we will give you a short introduction to the cities and areas and give you some suggestions to what you can do there before and after you attend the Wicked musical show.
